Ingredients
Vodka Martinis are one of the most famous and delicious vodka drinks on the planet. Designed as a simple mixture between just a few ingredients, the vodka martini is the essence of class and sophistication embodied into a single glass of liquid.
History of the Vodka Martini Cocktail
Martinis used to be made with gin, but over the years the price of vodka has made it preferable, and many people enjoy the vodka flavor more. However, the original term “Martini” actually referred specifically to the mixture of gin and vermouth, so purists argue that there is in fact no such thing as a vodka martini – rather there is simply a vodka/vermouth cocktail. Still, the terminology still exists, and few of these purists will actually claim that the drink is not delicious. Rather they simply do not like the terminology used to refer to the drink.
How to Make a Vodka Martini
Making a Vodka Martini is easy. First you take 1 ½ ounces of Vodka, and you mix it with approximately ½ oz of dry or sweet vermouth. This mixture can either be stirred in a glass with ice, or shaken in a cocktail shaker, as seen in the James Bond Movies.
Vodka Martini Cocktails
In addition to the standard vodka martini, the phrase “Martini” has grown to mean any flavored beverage with vodka as the primary ingredient. Appletinis, for example, are apple juice and vodka served in a martini glass. There are also chocolatinis and even Saketinis (where Saki is used to replace the vermouth).
This strays even further from the idea that “Martini” is the strict term for gin and vermouth mixture, but regardless, the Martini and the vodka martini cocktail variations are likely to be a standard fixture in bars and clubs for a long time to come.
